Overview

This 2-hour seminar focuses specifically on the transition from being a coworker or individual contributor to becoming the person responsible for leading the team. The session recognises that the challenge is both practical and emotional: relationships change, expectations increase and the new manager must learn when to support, when to delegate, when to give feedback and when to make a decision.

Hour 1 focuses on making the transition successfully: changing mindset, resetting expectations, establishing boundaries and building credibility with former peers. Hour 2 develops the day-to-day management skills needed after the transition, including delegation, one-to-one conversations, feedback, accountability, conflict and creating a fair team environment.

Why you should Attend

Being promoted within your own team can create awkwardness quickly if the transition is left unspoken. Trying too hard to remain “one of the team” can make accountability difficult, while becoming overly authoritative can damage relationships and trust.

This seminar helps new managers navigate that middle ground. Participants will learn how to reset relationships professionally, establish credibility without overcompensating, delegate effectively, manage former peers fairly and approach the conversations that become part of leading people.

    • Moving from solving every problem yourself to coaching team members to take ownership
