Overview

This session explores how organisations can turn performance data into information that supports better decisions. It begins by examining the relationship between strategic objectives, KPIs and supporting metrics, including how leading and lagging indicators can provide different views of progress.

The webinar then moves into more advanced analytical thinking: establishing useful baselines and targets, analysing trends and variance, segmenting results, identifying outliers, comparing performance across periods or groups, and using dashboards to direct attention rather than simply display data. Participants will also consider how forecasting, scenario thinking and AI-assisted analysis can help teams explore what may happen next and investigate potential drivers behind performance.

Throughout the session, emphasis is placed on data quality, context and interpretation. Presentation-based examples demonstrate how to move from a metric, to an insight, to a decision and finally to an accountable action.

Why you should Attend

A dashboard can look impressive and still lead a team in the wrong direction. Poorly defined KPIs, inconsistent data, vanity metrics and conclusions drawn without context can create false confidence rather than insight.

This webinar helps participants move beyond passive reporting. Attendees will learn how to connect performance measures to business objectives, interrogate what the data is actually showing, recognise patterns and exceptions, and translate analytics into practical decisions and follow-up actions.

Areas Covered in the Session

  • Connect organisational goals to meaningful KPIs and supporting metrics so performance tracking reflects what the business is actually trying to achieve
  • Differentiate between leading and lagging indicators and use them together to create a more balanced view of performance
  • Establish useful baselines, targets, thresholds and reporting frequencies for different types of performance measures
  • Apply trend, variance, segmentation and comparative analysis to move beyond headline numbers and investigate what may be driving results
  • Recognise outliers, anomalies and changes in performance that warrant deeper investigation rather than immediate assumptions
  • Design and interpret dashboards that prioritise relevant information, reduce metric overload and make important performance changes easier to identify
  • Use forecasting and scenario-based thinking to complement historical reporting and support forward-looking decisions
  • Explore how AI-assisted analytics can help summarise data, generate questions, identify possible patterns and accelerate analysis while maintaining human verification and judgement
  • Turn analytical findings into clear decisions, actions, ownership and follow-up measures so performance tracking leads to measurable improvement
