Overview

Earning a SHRM certification (whether the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) has become an important milestone for many HR professionals. These credentials can open doors to career advancement, signal professional credibility, and provide confidence in your HR expertise. But for first-time test-takers, the path to certification can feel daunting.

Candidates often find themselves wading through an overwhelming amount of study materials, prep courses, and online advice. Unfortunately, much of this information is inconsistent, filled with marketing jargon, or simply misleading. As a result, many test-takers prepare inefficiently, focus on the wrong areas, or carry unnecessary anxiety into exam day.

This webinar is designed to cut through that noise. Led by Mark Smith, PhD (former Director of the SHRM Certification Exams and an expert in HR assessment), this session offers a unique insider’s perspective. During his time at SHRM, Mark oversaw the design and administration of the exams and conducted original research into what predicts success. His deep knowledge of how the tests are built and how candidates actually perform makes him uniquely positioned to separate fact from fiction.

In this session, you’ll learn:

  • How SHRM exams are structured and scored-and what that means for your preparation
  • Common myths and misconceptions about the exams (and why believing them can hurt your chances)
  • What SHRM’s published pass rates do and don’t reveal about your likelihood of success
  • How to build a study plan that works for you-efficient, focused, and realistic
  • Strategies for reducing test-day anxiety and walking in with confidence

Whether you’re preparing for the SHRM-CP or the SHRM-SCP, this session will give you accurate information, practical strategies, and a clearer picture of what to expect. You’ll walk away with a better preparation plan-and the reassurance that you’re focusing your efforts where they matter most.

If you’ve ever wondered, “Am I studying the right things?” or “What do I really need to know to pass?”-this webinar will give you the clarity and confidence you’ve been looking for.

Why you should Attend

Studying for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP exam can feel overwhelming. Many well-meaning HR professionals spend countless hours preparing in the wrong way: focusing on the wrong content, using poor-quality prep materials, and believing myths about the exams. Here’s the reality:

  • Are you studying the wrong things? Most test-takers don’t realize the SHRM exam blueprints are public knowledge (and often overlooked). I’ll show you how to align your prep with what’s actually tested
  • Confused by “SHRM answers”? Many candidates think they need to guess the “official” SHRM response that defies workplace reality. That’s not true. Once you understand how items are created, the logic behind them makes sense
  • Unsure if certifications are worth it? You’ve probably seen claims like “certified HR pros make 15% more.” I was part of the research behind those numbers, and I’ll explain what’s real and what’s marketing spin
  • Wondering about pass rates? They’re public, but most people don’t know where to find them or how different groups perform. I’ll share what the data says and what strategies are linked to higher pass rates
  • Frustrated by bad prep resources? Many “sample questions” from third-party companies don’t reflect the real exam.
  • I’ll help you avoid wasted effort
  • Want insider perspective? As someone who worked inside SHRM on exam development and research, I can shed light on the process and give you a clearer path to passing

This webinar won’t just calm your fears-it will give you confidence, clarity, and a more strategic plan for exam success.

Note: as a former insider, there are some proprietary things that I cannot reveal, but there is a lot of relevant information that I can provide. We will stick with the information that I can share.
